Wartime in Atlantic City and Atlantic City Veterans

Guide to Library Resources: Wartime in Atlantic City and AC Veterans

Atlantic City has a long-standing tradition of supporting the United States Armed Forces. From the Civil War to the present, the City has given all - citizens, soldiers, hotels, and dollars - to support the war effort. During World War II, Atlantic City was converted into a training and recruitment base, known locally as Camp Boardwalk. Hotels previously full of tourists became barracks for soldiers, and Thomas M. England General Hospital was established in the world-famous Chalfonte-Haddon Hall and Traymore Hotels to care for wounded soldiers and amputees.

This Resource Guide lists information available in the room for research about Atlantic City veterans and wartime in Atlantic City. The Heston Room is open for walk-in research on Wednesdays (2:00-4:30 PM) and Thursdays (9:30 AM-12:00 PM and 2:00-4:30 PM). At all other times, an advance appointment is required.
